Clarence Paul

Clarence Otto Pauling , better known as Clarence Paul, was a songwriter and record producer for Detroits Motown Records.

He was born in WinstonSalem, North Carolina, United States, and was the brother of theRoyales guitaristsongwriter, Lowman Pauling Jr. Their father was a coal miner in Bluefield, West Virginia, where the brothers listened to country music on the towns only radio station. In WinstonSalem, the brothers formed the gospel group, the Royal Sons Quintet, later to become theRoyales. Paul dropped the ing from his last name after moving to Detroit, Michigan, in the 1950s, so he would not to be confused with his older brother.
